In 2003 Manchester hosted Europride -- an annual gay event that takes place in a different European city each year. The event lasted for ten days in all, with the traditional Manchester Mardi Gras on the second weekend.

Europride began at 10pm on a Friday evening with a small procession along Canal Street in Manchester's Gay Village (see left).

In all, £124,000 was raised for charity -- the largest amount ever from Manchester's August lesbian and gay festival.
