It was sunny and warm this morning. I opened the living-room window and sat in
the sun in just a t-shirt. Not much wind either. Then later I watched it get dark.
The hills in the picture are about 15 miles away I reckon. The telephoto lens
on the camcorder squashes up the distance (like binoculars do) and makes them
seem much nearer.
The Internet, and particularly the web, just blows my mind sometimes. For ordinary
people to be able to publish worldwide so easily, with so little expense and equipment
-- well it's just incredible.
Until recently publishing had always been in the control of the rich and powerful
and some people, no doubt, would like to see the web go that way too. I hope that
the likes of Bill Gates and Rupert Murdoch can be prevented from turning it into
just another delivery mechanism for their 'products'. I'm certain they would love
to squeeze out everyone else.
Of course, publishing isn't just about the delivery mechanism, it's about having
interesting content (and I'm not necessarily saying I do!)and presenting it in
a usable form. Having the tools to publish means nothing unless the publisher
has something interesting to say and can produce it to a certain standard.
Video is the next stage that everyone is talking about. We'll all be able to have
our own TV station supposedly. But for many people it's difficult enough writing
text and taking photographs for a web page, let alone making a TV programme --
a process which requires writing, photography AND a whole lot of other skills.
I mean, quite a few people can write something interesting, some can take decent
photographs, but how many understand the creative techniques that are necessary
to shoot and edit a good video?
Anyway, this is a longwinded way of saying that I'm going to be putting some clips
from my videos on the site in the near future! They'll be in RealMedia format.
Oh, and in case you were wondering... No -- I don't mean THAT kind of video :-)
