So hopefully my computer problems are now solved for another couple of months.
In a nutshell... Windows began playing up. I always get the same problem: after
a couple of months something happens to the File Explorer. It crashes and freezes
up etc. Reinstalling Windows cures it.
However, this time I decided to reformat my system hard drive (I have two drives
and use the larger one for data). And I thought this would be the perfect chance
to install and try out LInux. Which I did.
The version of Linux that I tried installs a dual-boot facility, so you can start
up either Windows or Linux. Anyway, it seems that thing corrupted the boot-sector
of my drive and I ended up being unable to start anything! I had to get help from
a friend to put things right.
So that partly explains why I've been so quiet this week. The other reason is
that I went out clubbing two nights!
I've actually had a great week and my friend Neil said 'you should go out, as
you can't put a foot wrong this week. You'll probably meet someone gorgeous.'
Would you believe that, two hours later, a 19 year-old student came up to me and
told me I was cute? He certainly was anyway and I went back to the University
Halls of Residence with him for a coffee.
Wow -- talk about feeling old!
Mr Benn: the movie
One of the most bizarre ideas for a film so far this year is a live-action version
of Mr Benn.
No, I'm not kidding. They have approached Ben Kingsley to play the shopkeeper
and Jane Horrocks (Bubble from Absolutely Fabulous) to play his 'love interest'.
If you're outside of the UK, then you may not know who Mr Benn is... Well, he's
a British cartoon character of the 1960's.
A bowler-hatted man who lives by himself. Every so often Mr Benn goes down to
the local fancy dress shop, where he tries on a different outfit each episode.
Then he goes through a second door in the changing room 'which always leads to
adventure.'
Yeah, I know, it sounds highly suspect. But it was 30 years ago and it was made
for 5-10 year-olds. Which makes the idea of a live-action version with a 'love
interest' all the more bizarre.
But it is one of those kids programmes that has something of a nostalgic/cult
following and I admit that I also love to watch it sometimes :-)
