Watching a kid's TV programme about forgotten stations on the London Underground...
Every Thursday I pick up two copies of each of the
free gay newspapers that we get here in the UK: The Pink Paper, Boyz and Axiom
News.
Why two copies? Well, one of my best friends lives in a rural area in the very
Northern-most part of England, where they don't get such luxuries. So I package
them up and post them to him.
Then, at the beginning of each week I post off a video-cassette to my mum. She
loves Prisoner Cell Block H and can't pick up Channel 5 which shows the series
on Fridays and Saturdays here. So I tape it and post it to her.
I usually weigh the packets on my kitchen scales, stick enough stamps on, and
post them in the pillar box across the street.
Last week for some reason I had the packets with me when I went to the Post Office
and had them checked there. Oddly, neither of them had enough stamps on...
I thought perhaps my scales were faulty. But I discovered the real reason when
I checked the postal rates on the Royal
Mail web site. For the last three years I have been using an out-of-date price
list!
Which means that every one of the many hundreds of packets that I have sent in
that time has had insufficient postage!
The funny thing is that they have all got there... Which is pretty decent of the
Royal Mail, I say :-)
