Tonight I watched the film The Net. I thought it was bit slow
to begin with, but then it became quite exciting -- the reverse of what usually
happens!
I found the theme of losing your identity due to computer hacking quite scarey.
I'm sure most of us have been overcharged or had hassle getting wrong details
corrected.
The moment when she found out the true identity of her companion on the yacht
was one of the spookiest moments I've seen on screen for some time. Enhanced by
the disjointed editing of close-ups.
The film has stood up really well too, considering it was made in 1995.
Perhaps it would be even better on a screen that was larger than 14 inches! My
26-inch Sony which I used to have here is currently on loan to mum and dad. I
found that the cold damp winter weather here, along with the TV going unused all
winter, was causing problems with it. Anyway, I find I don't watch much TV here
in the summer.
Well, I am still having a wonderful time away from it all. It was sunny and hot
yet again and the house has even begun to warm up! The stone walls are over a
foot thick and they act like a giant storage heater. Only it takes a while for
the heat to build up.
Today I sat in the garden and marvelled at the range of wildlife here. Just so
many birds flitting about and so many different types. Including a tiny wren,
which I saw in the same place on the fence yesterday too -- so maybe it is going
to nest nearby?
You can also see the stars here at night, there is so little light pollution.
These are all things that I miss living in the city.
I love soaking in the bath with a book (well hopefully the book isn't soaking).
This one is about James Dean. Did you know that one of his mates was Martin Landau
-- later Commander Koenig in Space 1999? Well that's your sci-fi trivia for today!
Strange to think that, if he were still alive, James Dean would now be almost
70!
