Yesterday, along with a few other UK webcam people, I was approached by a company
that's making a pilot TV programme. There was talk about me going down to London
on Friday to be interviewed in the studio.
Today they called to say they were thinking of doing the interview over the 'phone
instead. However, I only have one line and no mobile (I hate mobiles) so chatting
with me while I was online was going to be difficult!
In the end they said that a one-minute refresh wouldn't be visual enough. I had
offered to set up a 20 second refresh for them, but I couldn't rewrite the code
in the few minutes they gave me before they previewed my page in their studio
rehearsals.
I have been on TV before, so it's not as though it would be a new experience for
me. A slight disappointment but also a relief in some ways, as I am really up against
it this week with deadlines.
Earlier this week my Windows registry twice became corrupted. The first time I
had to reinstall Windows 98 and much of my software. On the second occasion Windows
wouldn't start at all. So I took the opportunity to switch to a new hard drive
for my system files and to install Windows 2000 for the first time.
Oh dear. It's great -- I really like the way it feels -- but unfortunately neither
my video card nor my scanner would work with it and there is no sign of Windows
2000 drivers for either becoming available.
As these are the two pieces of kit that I use constantly, I had no alternative
but to scrap 2000 and return to Windows 98 for the time being at least.
I was determined not to get into the UK version of Big Brother but I am well and
truly hooked.
Tonight public schoolboy/city trader Nick was exposed as having broken the rules.
He cheated by trying to influence the voting of the other contestants -- so he
wouldn't be nominated for eviction himself.
Although the other people in the house said he hadn't influenced them, the fact
is that Nick is the only one who never received a nomination for eviction.
I hear he has now been kicked off the programme and will be replaced.
Still, I can't help feeling a bit sorry for him, as he has made a fool of himself
and shown himself to be a manipulator and a cheat in front of 5 million people.
So much for being a 'winner'...
