On Tuesday I found myself with some spare cash
on my credit card :-) So I bought three items.
First was a 40Gb harddrive. I was tired of struggling to make space for video
files and I was having to compromise the quality by compressing them so they would
fit in the little space I had available.
That arrived here from Microdirect in Manchester via Amtrak the following morning.
Only 19 hours after I ordered it over the 'phone. Impressive, though I paid £10
for delivery.
Unfortunately it took me all day to install the drive because I discovered my
BIOS only supports drives of up to 8Gb! But in the end I was able to get the system
to recognise all 40Gb by installing a bit of software from the Maxtor website.
The second item I bought was a set of dumbells. I ordered these online from the
Index catalogue shop website. I already have a set in Manchester but they're bit
heavy to carry up here and I miss working out with them.
Anyway, these are the same brand, so they'll work with my existing set and mean
I'll no longer have to swap weights between the dumbells and the barbell.
The dumbell set arrived on Thursday morning. Twenty kilos in one tiny box -- poor
delivery man! Index is owned by Littlewoods so it uses their catalogue delivery
service. Again, nice fast service and just £2.95 delivery charge.
The third item is, ummmmm, something from CloneZone -- the well-known gay store
which has a branch in Manchester. Postage £4.00.
That hasn't arrived yet and their website says that delivery can take 28 days,
but is 'usually faster'. 'If your parcel seems delayed... please do not contact
us within 28 days' says their site. Hmmmm... 'do not'?
Well, it is only a few days so far, so we shall see.
