Manchester has been hit by earthquakes! A total of 38 tremors in the last four
days and experts say they could continue for months or even years.
The strongest quake struck the city centre on Monday and measured 3.9 on the Richter
scale. Not much if you live in San Francisco or somewhere like that, but we aren't
used to this kind of thing here. So there was some alarm.
In reality, tremors happen in Britain quite often, but go unnoticed because lots
of them happen in rural spots. It just so happens that these affected faults that
run right under Manchester City Centre. I looked at a map of the faults and, guess
what? Two of the faults run either side of where I live!
Can't say I'm disappointed to be here out in the country at the moment, rather
than up in my 8th floor apartment. Though I admit I do have a slight sense of
missing out on the excitement...
