Out in the countryside again. I arrived a week ago yesterday and, as you can see,
I have made a couple of new friends!
I was clearing the undergrowth at the top of the garden and this mummy sheep brought
her lamb over to see me. She lets me scratch her head. I gave her some greens
and now she's at the fence whenever she hears me at work with a spade. She smells
a bit though!
In twenty years, I've never seen the ground so dry here. The landscape looks
scorched.
As for the journey up, I caught the 6.45am train from Manchester. I definitely
like travelling at that time of day.
My mum, dad, sister and her family arrived last Saturday and are staying at a
bigger house about 17 miles away. It's costing a bit -- about £800 per week!
I could have stayed there too, but decided to let them have a bit of extra
space for my sister's two boys (aged five and one). OK I admit I didn't fancy
being with the kids for a whole week 24/7!
It's been great to see them. Especially my mum, who has had chemotherapy since
I saw her last. But she is doing pretty well. They have picked me up most days
and we've headed off to the beach, the local towns and castles. The camcorder
has been getting a thorough testing.
Today it was just me mum and dad and we went out for lunch. They head off back
home tomorrow.
