Photo of the week: 10 Feb 2002, no.2
Every Sunday one of
my photographs - past or present - and the story behind it

Out of all the black and white shots I've taken,
this is one of my favourites. It was a misty, sunny day in the winter months of
1987/88 and I was crossing a bridge across the River Tyne in Newcastle.
I like the way the front of the train is just 'touching' the diagonal girder on
the bridge. It makes the picture.
Black and white film gives lovely creamy tones and so much detail. Seeing this
at a larger size, you can make out the individual people sitting on the train.
It was a while before I realised that there are also two people walking around
on the quayside.
