I came across this when I was preparing last week's photo. Bridges two weeks running -- sorry about that :-)

Going through my negatives since getting my film scanner, I've discovered a lot of shots that I didn't know were there. In the past, I'd print the most-promising frames and leave the rest. To be truthful, working in the darkroom was never my favourite part of photography, even though I was pretty competent in there.

What can I say about this shot? It breaks some of the 'rules' of composition by placing elements (the man with his dog and the bridge itself) in the centre of frame. I find the framing unsettling in some way, but I also like it. I suppose some people will think it is a grim scene. But industrial city scenes are among my most favourite subjects. I love the simplicity of this image and the fact that there are really only three tones: black, dark grey and light grey.

I'm not sure whether the bridge should be level... I think that section leads up onto the main part of the bridge, so perhaps not. Anyway, I tried rotating the photo to make it level and the shot didn't seem to work anymore. Probably something to do with the telegraph pole slanting too?
