I've had completely free Internet access this
weekend -- ISP and calls -- so I've tried to make the most of it.
Today I talked with another webcam owner, who I've wanted to chat with for a while.
It was odd watching him on his cam, knowing he was also watching me. I just haven't
done that before.
Not to mention trying to work out what it was that I said 40 seconds before that
he was reacting to visually!
Sometimes, with webcams and web video, it's almost as though we've gone back to
the days of magic lantern
shows and silent movies. It's high-tech in some respects but pitiful in others!
Queer As Folk -- the groundbreaking TV series about gay life in Manchester
-- gets a repeat showing on Channel 4 (in the UK) from this coming Tuesday. They
are showing two episodes each week. Then in February there will be two new programmes.
You may already know that. What you won't know is that I was an extra
in the new programmes. So watch out for me in the wedding reception scenes!
Filming a scene for one of the new QAF episodes, on a truly appalling rainy day in Manchester
If you're ever working as an extra and you want to maximise
your chances of getting on screen, my top tip is to wear blue or green. I wore
a pale green shirt that I would never wear normally.
Why? Well blue and green are both 'background' colours (think sky and hills).
Whereas red, yellow and orange are 'foreground' colours and jump out at the viewer
and white is much too glaring on camera.
The director doesn't want extras to stand out and distract from the actors. Well
that's my theory and sure enough I got chosen to stand behind the main characters
several times and was even made-up at one point.
Just how this will all cut together I'm not sure, as I seemed to be in shots that
were consecutive, in completely different parts of the room!
But I just wanted to be part of this great series and it was an experience.
By the way, I LOVE this deep blue sky effect that I get first thing in the morning.
Well done! You made it to the end of my latest diary. That means you qualify for
a link to a site of hot Russian lads :-)
