Tuesday afternoon, 2.15pm... A bright sunny
day and my first time outside after a week of being ill. I got about 100 yards
from where I live and was mugged at knifepoint by two men.
One pressed a knife into my side and told me he would cut me up if I didn't give
him my cash and bank cards. They wanted the PIN numbers but I couldn't remember
them.
I grabbed the man's wrist, but the other was making out he had a knife in his
pocket, so I handed over what they wanted. Then I struggled and got away.
All they got was £20 cash. I had cancelled the cards within 45 minutes.
They didn't even bother to hide their faces.
Five months ago a man threatened to stab me and take my camera, because I wouldn't
give him money. That happened at 5pm on a busy city centre street.
The Police more or less told me that I shouldn't walk around with a camera unless
I had some kind of 'bodyguard'. They asked if I was a visitor to the city, suprised
that I didn't know any better...
Unfortunately this is what things are coming to in certain inner-city areas of
Britain.
Sorry about the lack of updates over the last week. I've been pretty ill. Then,
also on Tuesday, good old British Telecom accidently disconnected my line (for
the fourth time in two years). As you can imagine, I was SO sorry to see their
huge fall in profits and the collapse of their share price the same day!
If you're in the UK, you may have heard about the campaign that has been launched
in Scotland to keep Section 28 -- the law which bans the 'promotion' of homosexuality
by local authorities.
Foolishly, the 'Keep the Clause' bigots have launched a Freepost address for supporters.
Every letter sent to this costs them 20p. That is 20p less for them to spend on
their homophobic propoganda.
Buy 100 cheap envelopes and mail them! Send to:
Keep the Clause, FREEPOST SCO 5219, Perth PH2 8BR.
Oh yes, and you may also like to join us in boycotting Stagecoach buses, as the
owner is backing Keep the Clause to the tune of 1 million.
