I spent most of yesterday taking one of my two remaining pet
rats to the vets to be put to sleep. Until about a fortnight ago she was leading
a normal life, she was lively and eating well, despite the fact that she had a
large benign tumour.
Unfortunately, then the lump began to change, she went into a sudden decline and
the only option was to have her put to sleep. She was 2
years and 4 months old -- the Queen Mother in rat terms.
That leaves me with one remaining rodent (shown left) who is now very quiet and,
I suspect, depressed by the loss of her little friend.
News of the AltaVista flat-rate Internet service finally appeared today and what
a surprise... You can't sign up unless you have a credit card.
As it is only one payment per year, it would hardly kill them to provide other
methods for people who don't want a card or who can't get one.
So much for all their fine talk... This is all to do with 'cherry-picking' the
rich customers. Although it isn't a problem for me, I'm now considering whether
to use an alternative service instead, on principle.
It's London Mardi Gras this weekend. It was called Gay Pride the last time I went
down in 1997. That was when I did the Pride March for the first time -- and loved
it. I even bumped into a guy whose dodgy website I'd visited.
I'm not much into the 'field' event in the afternoon... I've been to two and found
them disappointing. In '97 there were also huge problems getting back into the
centre of London due to the crowds.
So the sad-case Soho Bomber has been sentenced to six life-sentences. I won't
mention his name, as part of his purpose was to become famous and he has already
received huge coverage on TV and in the newspapers.
Hopefully he will spend the rest of his life behind bars. Though, if you have
a problem with homosexuality, getting yourself banged up (pun intended) for life
with a lot of mean sexually-frustrated men, probably isn't such a good idea...
I suspect the evening the Soho bomb exploded is, to many gay people, what the
Kennedy assassination is to Americans. You remember exactly what you were doing
at the time and thoughts turn to whether friends might be there.
I had just moved in here and was stripping the wallpaper in the hallway, while
listening to the radio.
