I may have mentioned that I've been using reclaimed timber for the cupboards that
I'm building. Some of that wood from the 1960's has a quality that is hard to
find these days.
However, by yesterday I had run out of 2x2 and 2x1 for making the frames (I've
still got plenty of sheets of plywood). My friend Neil wanted some wood too, so
we arranged to go and get some today.
So, after just four hours sleep (because I stayed up so late on the 'net) I found
myself with Neil on a tram going to Whitefield -- which is a fair distance from
where we live. We were heading for a DIY (hardware) store called Wickes that I
used to visit with my boyfriend some eight years ago.
Off the tram we got and the road seemed a lot longer than I remembered. Of course,
years ago, we used to go in the car. It began raining...
We got to the end of the road and the place wasn't there any more! It had become
a gym. Luckily, Neil is easy going about such disasters and we ended up having
a pleasant time looking around the shops in nearby Bury.
So, then, back home we went and out of Manchester again in the opposite direction.
This time to B&Q and on the bus. Luckily this place was still standing and
we got what we wanted.
However, I don't particularly want to make a habit of travelling on buses with
14 pieces of 7ft long timber :-)
Writing e-mail... I've always used Pegasus
Mail. I love it. It's freeware, though you can support the author by buying
a manual. It also avoids all the nasty bugs that target Outlook Express :-)
A documentary about the Queen Mother. It was a 'warts and all' thing that would
have have been unlikely ten years ago. It shows how attitudes towards the Royal
Family have changed in that time.
She has her 100th
birthday in the next few weeks.
