I bought a secondhand 'doubler' for my SLR camera. It fits between the lens and
camera body and increases the lens magnification by a factor of two.
I don't have a great interest in equipment for the sake of it... To me, photography
is about the content of the images and not the camera.
I was reminded of this recently when I bought a birthday card for my mum. I know
the British seaside town of Blackpool holds happy memories for her, so I choose
a card that I knew would bring back those thoughts.
The card shows a 1950's photograph of two girls sitting on the famous railings
in front of the beach at Blackpool. This particular image was taken by the
British photographer Bert Hardy for Picture Post magazine.
They sent him out with a simple amateur Box Brownie camera, to prove that great
photographs could be taken using a basic camera and that shot became one of his
most famous photographs...
Often you know a photo is going to turn out well the second you take it. Other
times you aren't sure until the film comes back.
Unless you're into photography you may not believe this next bit... but getting
a great shot can be as good as sex.
