I'm back at my little house in the country again. I arrived late yesterday after
a day at my mum and dad's.
I was desperate to get away from the city. I hadn't been up here for almost a
year. This summer is going to be very different!
The house had been closed up all winter and it was exceptionally cold earlier
this year. In fact the power supply to the village was off for three days due
to all the snow.
When I got here and turned on the water, I found I had a burst pipe and the water
heater had been damaged too.
Luckily I was able to isolate the burst, so I have water (though no hot) and it's
not as serious as it sounds. The heater is 25 years old and needed replacing anyway.
So I have a plumber coming tomorrow to give me an estimate for a new heater and
possibly to add a radiator in the living room. And, instead of bottled gas, they
will be on the mains gas supply.
I began tidying up the garden. You may remember that I was here
in May last year? This year the garden seems to be about two weeks behind.
The clematis was just beginning to flower on the 7 May last year and is at the
same stage now, 23 May.
This time I'm hoping to be here for much longer. The whole summer if I can manage
it. The weather forecast is hot and sunny until the weekend.
I got most of the overgrown lawn chopped down and then my strimmer broke down.
I've had it just over a year... So, if you're in the market for a strimmer, it
might be a good idea to avoid Black and Decker!
I don't think electrical equipment enjoys being left in an unheated house. It's
so cold and damp in this area over the winter.
But, despite the problems, it feels great to be here again :-)
