On Wednesday I smelt gas around the meter, which is
in the living room. I called Transco, and an engineer turned up within the hour
and fixed it. The leak was on their gas meter, not on the central heating installation...
Friday again and my radio show....
All went well for the first 45 minutes,
but then I began to have some weird technical problems. A track that I'd played
earlier, and which was no longer anywhere to be seen, kept playing now and again.
Very strange...
Doing the show is fun and there's a feel-good factor for me during it. But I've
noticed as soon as I come off air, often I feel really low!
To an extent I can relate it to the magazine work that I talked about a couple
of journal entries back. I would get a high working to meet a close deadline and
as I completed the work and sent it off. Then almost immediately there would be
a slight low. But nothing as bad as with this show. It has taken me by surprise and I'm wondering whether to continue.
Also I'm frustrated with the Shoutcast software and with the amateurish way Windows
handles sound overall. All compounded by the fact that my PC isn't quite fast
enough to handle some of the music mixing software that is available, and the
Shoutcast transmission, both at the same time.
I've thought of pre-recording the show, which would solve all the problems. It
would let me do something more professional: mix the music and voice, get the
levels right etc. But I reckon it would at least double the time it takes each
week -- from two hours to four or five. And I just can't devote that amount of
time when I get such a small audience. I would rather spend it working on this website.
