I went down to Manchester two weeks ago and got back here last Wednesday. I didn't
take the PC.
I thought I'd have a break from it for a week. Which was interesting... One of
the things that emerged was how often I look up information about movies that
I see on TV. I also realised how dull television is when I have to watch more
than the usual small amount.
Actually, I did have my old Amiga there and even played The Settlers on it one
night. Sad computer-addict that I am!
I took some photos while in Manchester, but I forgot to bring back some film developer,
and I've run out, so can't process them until I get some...
I'm very busy at the moment with work and the end of the tax year coming on the
31st January.
I've said before that I feel my 20 year 'love affair' with Manchester is coming
to an end. For as long as I can remember, I've felt some excitement as the train
approached Piccadilly Station and I saw the city skyline. But, this time, I felt
nothing at all.
It is suprisingly mild tonight. Windy, but still 10c (62f) outside. It feels almost
like spring. I expect this will confuse the poor old plants even more. Red Admiral
butterflies keep appearing in the house.
Apparently there was a large number of them ('plague' seems the wrong word for
something so beautiful) here in the village last October and some have hibernated
in the house and come to life too early due to the central heating.
Thirty minutes before I left for Manchester, I discovered that a mouse had made
its nest in the kitchen cupboard. The nest was in a box full of old stuff on the
bottom shelf of the cupboard under the worktop.
I think the mouse may have come from next door, as they have been doing some work
on the house lately. My new heating pipes go through the cupboard, so there may
be some new gaps into the cupboard. What a warm little mouse house!
Anyway, it must have had a rude awakening. Not only did I throw away its nest
and food supply (some very old packets of sauce mix!) but of course the heating
was turned off completely for ten days. I'm hoping it has already moved out in
disgust ;-)
