I met 'S' last night and we drove to Didsbury in his (new) car. Didsbury used
to be a village on the edge of Manchester. But, these days, it feels more like
a suburb. Since I lived around there twenty years ago, some bigger shops and restaurants
such as Pizza Hut have appeared on the main street.
We parked the car and headed to a coffee shop but, as we were walking along the
street, a woman came up to us carrying a huge pizza box. She said the pizza shop
had made up the wrong order and did we want the pizza for free, as she was driving
to Sheffield and didn't want the smell of it in her car. I think she may have
been a vegetarian...
So we took it and thanked her. Of course we were worried that it might have
been tampered with! And we didn't want to get poisoned. It's kind of sad that
is the first thing everyone thinks of these days...
However the pizza smelt so good that we headed back to the car, decided to take
the risk, and ate it. It was about 14 inches wide, topped with cajun chicken,
olives, chillies and red onion. 'S' is Muslim, so he was worried that the chicken
was not 'halal'. But not worried enough not to eat it! I just thought... he eats
chicken at MacDonalds (yuk) often and I'm sure their's isn't halal either...
