Mum and Dad's gifts DID arrive today. Hoorah! Mum is out of hospital for Christmas.
But will be going back in afterwards. She has already opened the package, loves
her CD player and dad is looking forward to reading all the inside info about
George Bush ;-)
I'm a bit worried that my prison pen-pal won't get my Christmas greetings in time.
Writing to him isn't something I went into lightly. This guy has no one -- his
friends and family have deserted him -- and he is serving a 40-year sentence.
Having begun this correspondence with him, there is no way I could just stop writing
and let him down. That would be a extremely cruel thing to do.
Luckily it is going great. We have been exchanging letters since August. He loves
to receive my mail and it's fun to see his waiting for me on the doormat. In fact,
I stay in touch with so many people either by 'phone or e-mail these days, that
I'd forgotten just how nice it is to receive a handwritten letter in an envelope
every week.
If he serves his full sentence, I'll be 78 when he's released... Hopefully he'll
be out long before that!
