Forget the Millennium! The REAL reason for celebrating in Britain at the moment
is the fact that British Telecom has finally been forced into offering non-metered
call charges for Internet users.
Up to now we've been stuck with paying at least 1p per minute for our local calls.
Resulting in a huge bill at the end of the month for anyone who surfs a lot (ie.
me).
BT -- which has had a monopoly on local calls up to now (but not for much longer)
-- consistently refused to do anything about it and gave a series of lame reasons
why it couldn't.
In the UK, the Internet is about 2 years behind the US and the average use per
person is only around 4 hours per month. British Telecom is partly to blame for
that.
Now, it has been been told by the regulator that things must change.
So, from around the end of March, we will be able to surf 24 hours a day all weekend,
every weekend, for £6.50 per month. Or, for £35 per month, we will
be able to stay online 24 hours a day all month long!
YES!
It wasn't THAT boring in the Dublin chat room -- honestly ;-)
Hi to the guys who I talked with. Why was I in there? Well, why restrict yourself
to your home city when there's a whole world of chat-rooms? Besides which, Irish
men... Mmmmm. That's a pretty good reason.
ABOVE: Most people take their clothes OFF when they head towards bed!
Well it looks as though I'll be back home at around 23.00 on Thursday. I made
arrangements today.
Apparently the heating system in the block where I live wasn't Year 2000 compliant,
so the engineers need to get access to fix it when I get back. Luckily I have
alternatives for heating and hot water in case it isn't fixed for a day or so.
