Manchester GayFest 2001 began this evening. It was raining heavily most of the
day but fortunately the rain let up a bit by the time of the opening parade and
ceremony. But, to be frank, they were a bit of a non-event.
Despite that, I still got a few photographs. Here are a couple of them. You can
see them all in the GayFest 2001 gallery.
Someone even offered to take a pic of me. And here it is...
My own feeling is that the whole event revolves around bars, clubs and alcohol
way too much. However, money is raised for good causes and many good people give
up their time to help out.
One of my favourite photos of the whole weekend is this one, taken today, of the
guys from the Lesbian and Gay Foundation. They were giving out safer sex packs
in the cruising area. I'll be sending them some copies of the pics to use in their
publicity...
Anyway, make the most of this year's photographs, because I think I may be elsewhere
this time next year.
I've attended and photographed four of these now and there are other events happening
over the August Bank Holiday weekend. For instance, I've always wanted to go to
the Notting Hill Carnival.
However, I'm looking forward to tomorrow afternoon, and the parade, which is one
of my favourite parts of GayFest.
