Hey! An unexpected update thanks to my friend Miss Noodle -- shown above doing her best Anne Robinson impression. She kindly let me use her PC and digital camera.

You may remember that last time I returned to Manchester I didn't feel anything as the train approached... Whereas, previously, I'd always experienced a slight tingle of excitement.

Well this time, the tingle was back. Even though I'd only been away for just over a month, it felt nice to be back. It's definitely good to spend time away...

I got my appointment at the dentist over and last night went out to The Retro Bar (near to the gay village) for a beer with Miss Noodle. Unlike most places, it's quiet enough in there to have a conversation. If you visit, say 'hi' to Andrew the barman.

That's the first time I've been to any kind of gay bar or club since last October! I wonder how long I have to go before I can say I am 'non-scene'?

I've caught up with a few friends. I have a new next-door neighbour. The daffodils are more advanced down here!

Seeing the kittens in the Noodle household has made me think about my current lack of pets. I may get a new rat or even another cat.

I'm not sure which day I'll be returning back up north. I guess I could stay over Easter, providing I don't miss my PC too much :-)  I've picked up mail at the EasyEverything Internet cafe.

During my stay I visited the Rusholme area. I used to live around here some 15 years ago. The shot below shows Dickenson Road. There was an old church on this spot, which was a film studio and then, in the 1960's, it was owned by the BBC. The first Top of the Pops programme was broadcast from here.

A cobbled street off Dickenson Road. At one time there were lots of cobbles in Manchester. Many of the streets were just tarmac-ed over. Sometimes you can see the cobbles when the covering begins to wear away.

This is Wilmslow Road. The stretch through Rusholme is known as the 'curry mile' because of the dozens of 'Indian' restaurants. In fact, the majority seem to be run by Pakistani's. It looks much more impressive in the dark, with the many colourful neon signs (I'd better get some colour film for my next visit!).

Competition for customers is intense and there are often handsome young men standing outside encouraging people to choose their particular restaurant. The mix of many different cultures is one of the things that I like most about Manchester.

Rusholme is also a top place for fruit and vegetables. There is a huge choice, quality is often better than the supermarkets and the prices are lower.
