Late afternoon once again I met my friend 'S'. I've never seen so many things
happening in Manchester. This city is buzzing due to the Commonwealth Games. There
seemed to be an event happening around every corner.
In Piccadilly Gardens, hundreds of people were sitting on the grass watching live
coverage of the Commonwealth Games on a large video screen. An amazing bright
high-quality picture despite the sunlight.
Meanwhile there was street entertainment down by the new Urbis Centre (shown below).
The weather was baking hot again. I envisaged the Kenyan athletes protesting that
they couldn't compete in such hot conditions ;-) Back home I discovered I'd missed
the marathon at around 10am this morning. I could have seen it passing by on the
motorway near to where I live, but I was still sleeping. So, so annoying, as I
knew about the event but had forgotten. Grrrrrrr!
