A great new site... With the help of a grant from the National Lottery, they have
digitised the entire BritishPathe
newsreel archive and put it online.
Everything is there, from the most trivial footage to the most important world
news events. 3500 hours covering 75 years up to the late 1960's.
You can view low-quality streaming clips for free. It's also possible to have
material transferred to VHS or to get a higher-quality copy for a fee.
There are many bizarre and amusing reports to be found. One film, from 1955, features
a jewellery shop on Old Compton Street in Soho (now the centre of London's gay
scene). The shop is called 'Going Gay' and is owned by Mr Gay...
