Me: not so much 'in the closet' as 'in the cupboard' earlier today.

It's been an extraordinarily mild Autumn. Some
of the nasturtium flowers survived into December.
But, as soon as it got a little colder, who should turn up in the kitchen cupboard
again but the mouse. Remember him from last January?
So I took the side panel off the cupboard and crawled inside to find out how he
was getting in. |
I soon spotted a large hole behind the central heating pipes, leading into the
wall between the kitchen and living room. The *%@$** lazy workmen who installed
the heating hadn't bothered filling it -- probably because it was out of sight
from the front of the cupboard.
They had also made quite a mess with their blow-lamp as they welded the copper
pipe. I don't know if this is unavoidable, but in a couple of places in the kitchen
they have literally turned the skirting board into charcoal.
Mice and rats LOVE these holes, which are often left around pipes. They provide
a great entry point for them, from outside into the cavity wall and from there
into the house. One place where I lived, we discovered we had rats under the bath.
It's worth checking under your bath and sink and anywhere else a pipe enters,
inside the house and out to see if there are any gaps. Of course, a mouse can
squeeze through quite a small space and is hard to stop. .
Anyway, I mixed up some filler and, an hour later, it was all fixed.
